MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN NATIONAL TEXTILE CORPORATION LIMITED AND NATIONAL HANDLOOM DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION LIMITED

National Textile Corporation Limited (NTC) and National Handloom Development Corporation Limited (NHDC) are Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) under the Ministry of Textiles. Both these PSUs have joined hands to elevate the handloom textile clusters in the society. NHDC through its Handloom Agencies and identified clusters will supply handloom products to NTC at reasonable prices and NTC in turn will use its vast network of 84 retail stores to sell the same. NTC will also use its other initiatives like “StreeVijay” etc. to promote the handloom products as well. In its endeavor to become a consolidator to the textile sector, the Ministry has taken up this initiative in collaboration with the Office of Development Commissioner (Handlooms). NTC and NHDC jointly will work towards the increase in the awareness and sales of Handloom products. They will strive to uplift the weavers involved in this sector and ensure that they get continuous employment and are able to sustain themselves. The products will be procured at reasonable prices and sold also at the right prices to ensure continuous sale and repeated orders. The model is based on honest pricing model. NTC will also ensure that the advantages of these products are made well aware to the Nation and adequate promotion to this effect is carried out. NHDC will ensure that the quality of the products is of the required/international standards which will thereby ensure maximum off-take. The non-involvement of middlemen augurs well for the project and goes a long way in ensuring the achievement of its prime objective which is the development of the cluster and sustenance of the weavers working in those clusters. This is a commendable effort by the Ministry of Textiles, NTC and NHDC to have joined hands to develop the clusters and the weavers involved. The MOU was signed in the presence of the Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, Dr. Kavuru Sambasiva Rao, Secretary (Textiles), Govt. of India, Smt. Zohra Chatterji, Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Shri Balvinder Kumar and Jt. Secretary (Textiles), Govt. of India, Shri Sujit Gulati at a press conference held in the Ministry of Textiles on 06th September 2013 at 11:30 AM. The Hon’ble Minister while speaking on the occasion congratulated the heads of both the PSUs and maintained that they must work tirelessly towards the cause and ensure the success of the venture. He mentioned that periodic review of the sales and progress of the weavers in the targeted clusters should be carried out jointly.
